A Brief History

This club was founded in 1923 as Cippenham F.C. and was a founder member of the Slough Town Challenge Cup and also the old Windsor Slough & District League. During the early 80‘s Cippenham F.C. amalgamated with Cippenham C.C. with the opening of a new clubhouse on the village green and thus Cippenham Sports F.C. was born.

Unfortunately the clubs on the field success in both Cricket and Football played a significant part in its eventual downfall, first came the disbandment of the cricket side of the club in the early nineties. This was due mainly to the position of the cricket pitch in relation to the road and the safety aspects that arose from it. Forced to hire an alternative ground for Saturday League games and the majority of its 1st Team Sunday fixtures because of the safety fears, the cricket side burdened by the additional expense of hiring an alternative ground and dwindling player support folded, after 98 years.

The football side of the club has gone through a lot of changes, the amount of teams fielded, the Leagues in which they have played, the various name changes and the days on which the teams played to name but a few. The temporary nature of the clubhouse itself also caused huge financial problems as it began to fall into disrepair, eventually culminating in the tearing down of the clubhouse in 1998. This made the last remaining Cippenham team homeless and with the arson attack on the changing rooms in Mercian Way Park, Cippenham Sports were forced into living an nomadic existence, first playing it’s home games at Clewer Recreation Ground in Windsor before moving to Farnham Park Playing Fields, Farnham Royal.

However after an absence of almost six years, Cippenham finally returned to their spiritual home following the completion of new changing rooms at Mercian Way Park. On Saturday 11th September 2005 Cippenham played hosts to Woodley Town 'A' in the Maidenhead Norfolkian Cup, Cippenham eventually ran out 8-0 winners but more importantly sexy football had returned to the place where it was conceived way back in 1923.
