Cippenham Sports Open Golf Day 2009

An unpresidented EIGHTEEN players entered the Cippenham Sports Open Golf Classic @ Bird Hills Golf Club on Monday 28th December 2009.

After a bacon roll and coffee, play began at 8.32am with a four ball lead by James Nunn, Alex Reeman, Lewis Clements & Jerry Wing. The players involved in the competition were a mixed bunch ranging from officially handicapped players to complete novices like Mark "Norts" Norton, but the name of the game was fun.

The first award up for grabs was the "NEAREST THE PIN" TROPHY which was won for a third successive time by Alex Reeman with an excellent tee shot from the formidable looking 15th hole. The trophy will now be named after him so this year it'll be the Alex Reeman "NEAREST THE PIN" TROPHY.

The overall Champion was Andy Cumming with 40 points which made it six different winners in the six years the competition has been running. Last years runner-up Jerry Wing finished 2nd on 36 points and newbie Lewis Clements finished 3rd with 36 points. The "Worst Player" trophy was also a closely fought affair, however club captain Garry Pyper came top of the pile with a respectable 11 points, much to the relief of Karl Oliver 14pts & Mark Norton 13pts.

Cippenham Sports Open Golf Day 2008

SIXTEEN players entered the Cippenham Sports Open Golf Classic at Farnham Park Golf Club on Saturday 27th December 2008.

After polishing off a sumptuous full English breakfast, play began at 10.30am with four four balls led by James Nunn, Alex Reeman, Paul Whitney & Jerry Wing. The players involved were a mixed bunch ranging from officially handicapped players to complete novices like Chris "Bob" McEwen, but the name of the game was fun.

The first award up for grabs was the "NEAREST THE PIN" TROPHY which was won again by current holder Alex Reeman with his stunning tee shot on the tricky 2nd hole.

The overall Champion was Alex Reeman who completed a clean sweep, finally winning the championship following three top three finishes with 42 points, last minute replacement Jerry Wing was 2nd with 40 points and Dave Bryant was 3rd with 36 points. A THIRD trophy was introduced this year for the "Worst Player" which I'd hoped people would step up a gear to try and avoid winning however, "Bob" McEwen seemed chuffed when he received the trophy with an amazing 0 points.
