Cippenham Sports exited early from the EBFL Cup after there 4-3 extra-time defeat against Maidenhead Town on Saturday.

Cippenham had the first chance of the match when Michael Bevan weaved his way through the Maidenhead defence only to be denied by the outstretched boot of the Maidenhead keeper. Bevan did eventually give Cippenham the lead from a low drive after some great link up play with Luke Batting. Bevan doubled Cippenham’s when he latched onto Garry Pyper’s defence splitting pass and lobbed the advancing Maidenhead keeper. Maidenhead pulled a goal back almost immediately with a scrambled effort.

Bevan restored Cippenham’s two goal lead, completing his hat-trick in the process with a stunning strike, straight out of the top draw. Maidenhead clawed there way back into the game when they reduced the deficit courtesy of an audacious lob. Cippenham went close to scoring either side of Maidenhead’s equalising goal which came from a neat finish. Maidenhead had a couple of decent chances late on but the game was destined for extra time.

Cippenham went close to regaining the lead when Batting’s sweetly struck volley rattled the woodwork with the Maidenhead keeper beaten all ends up. Cippenham efforts were not helped with the loss of Bevan and an injury to Batting but Bevan’s replacement Max Pullman put in a shift whilst others wilted and tired after the previous weeks extra time exertions. Cippenham created a chance early in the second half however Maidenhead were in the ascendancy. Although they missed two golden opportunities just after Cippenham’s effort Maidenhead eventually secured victory with a 118 minute winner from a shot fired home from the edge of the box.
