Cippenham Sports slumped to a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Maidenhead Town on Saturday.

Cippenham carved out the first chance of the match when Jamie Dunning latched onto Ben Hancock’s delightful through ball and lobbed the advancing keeper. However, the strong winds which ruined the game as a spectacle seemed to hold the ball up long enough for a covering defender to clear the effort off the line. Keith Oswald was then denied a certain goal by an outstanding point blank save by the Maidenhead Town keeper. Maidenhead Town then control of the game with the help of the wind as Cippenham struggled to get the ball out of there half. Maidenhead duly took the lead when a free kick was floated into the box and Cippenham keeper Pete Collins was beaten in the air by a flick on. Consequently, the ball was bundled over the line by a Maidenhead forward. Maidenhead then doubled there lead from another set piece as Cippenham failed to clear there lines and although Collins saved the initial effort the loose ball was tapped home from close range. Maidenhead had a number of shots from distances by they all went awry.

With the wind in the second half Cippenham set up camp in the Maidenhead half and it was there turn to rain shots on the Maidenhead goal. Unfortunately Cippenham’s finishing lacked composure and they were often guilty of trying to find that killer pass. Cippenham went close when Joshua Warren saw his superb volley spectacularly palmed round a post by an in form Maidenhead keeper. The Maidenhead keeper then brilliantly blocked a James Nunn effort as Cippenham piled on the pressure. Maidenhead did mount the odd attack and only a last ditch tackle by Gavin Dent prevented them from extending there lead. However, Maidenhead did seal there victory with a goal at the death. They caught Cippenham on the break and although Collins parried the first effort he was powerless to stop the rebound being driven home.
