Cippenham Sports returned to winning ways with a workmanlike 4-2 win over Orchard Park Rangers on Saturday.
Cippenham fielding a bare eleven players took the lead in the opening minute through an unlikely source, when centre back Gavin Dent popped up at the far post to stab home a loose ball following a Chris Cumming corner. Orchard Park then got a foothold in the game but as Cippenham wrestled it back Orchard Park drew level against the run of play. An enticing corner evaded everyone except an onrushing Orchard Park player who nudged the ball home via his groin. Almost immediately Michael Bevan restored Cippenham’s lead with a neat finish however Orchard Park restored parity with a well taken goal on the stroke of half time.
The second half was a more open affair, Karl Oliver struck the woodwork with a thunderous header and James Nunn nodded wide. Bevan wasted a couple of half chances before restoring Cippenham’s lead from close range. Cippenham then fell asleep at a quickly taken free kick enabling Orchard Park a clear run on goal. Fortunately for Cippenham the resulting lob struck the outside of a post and bounced away to safety. The Orchard Park keeper then brilliantly tipped a Oliver 25 yard screamer round a post for a goal kick. Two Cippenham players were booked for decent following the referee’s decision. Bevan completed his hat-trick and the scoring when he raced clear and slide the ball home past an advancing keeper, as the game drew to a close.
