Cippenham Sports bowed out of the Presidents Cup following a disappointing 5-2 defeat against Division Four side Robertswood on Saturday.
An injury hit Cippenham Sports fell behind early when a needlessly given away free kick was drilled low towards goal and diverted past keeper Pete Collins by the outstretched boot of Robertswood player. Collins should have done better and to make matters worse Cippenham lost the services of James Nunn forcing the injured Garry Pyper to go between the sticks whilst Collins slotted in a centre back. Cippenham fell further behind when Pyper could on parry a fiercely struck shot and he was powerless in preventing the rebound being tapped home. Cippenham reduced the deficit when Jamie Dunning’s initial shot was partially saved and Luke Batting tucked away the rebound. Batting was unlucky when he hit the woodwork after following up another partially saved effort. Cippenham then shot themselves in the foot gifting Robertswood an opportunity on goal following a defensive howler and Robertswood took the chance with some aplomb.
Dunning reduced the deficit on the hour with a close range finish but Robertswood went down the other end and restored there two goal lead as Cippenham continued to give the ball away. As Cippenham pressed forward Robertswood caught them on the break, Pyper was forced into making a couple of excellent saves but he was eventually lobbed for Robertswood fifth goal. Cippenham did have a number of chances late on but a combination of good defending and poor finishing saw Robertswood comfortably hang on for a deserved win.
