Cippenham Sports recorded a superb 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Slough Laurencian Reserves on Saturday.

With first choice keeper Peter Collins away Cippenham were forced into placing veteran midfielder Garry Pyper in goal. More forced changes saw Chris Davis and Keith Oswald slot alongside James Nunn in the back three. Cippenham started brightly but as the game wore on Slough took a foothold in the match. They struck the outside of an upright from an acute angle and then saw two teasing crosses flash across the face of goal. Cippenham however took the lead when Nunn picked up the ball in his own half and burst through a static Slough defence to coolly slot home. Cippenham then extended there lead when player manager Jamie Dunning rolled back the years, when he latched onto a Michael Bevan through ball and outpaced the Slough defence before toe poking the ball past the advancing keeper.

The second half saw Slough pile on the pressure and Pyper was forced into making a fine save before they rattled the woodwork with a crisply struck shot. It was no all one way traffic as the usually prolific Bevan missed a sitter when the Slough keeper spilled the ball under a challenge. Substitute Bradley Davidson had the chance to wrap the game up for Cippenham when he charged down a clearance from the Slough keeper. Fortunately the ball broke kindly for him, he then calmly side stepped a covering defender only to drill his shot against a post. Cippenham held firm until two minutes to go when hesitation from Oswald allowed a Slough forward a run on goal and he tucked his chance away nicely. Cippenham were not to be denied though and there win dents Slough Laurencian title aspirations.
