Cippenham Sports began there League campaign with a gritty 3-2 win against Stoke Road Legion on Saturday.

 

 Kelon McPherson opened the scoring for Cippenham when he headed home Ben Hancock’s pinpoint cross. Debutant Bradley Davidson then increased Cippenham’s lead with an audacious 35 yarder. Cippenham keeper Pete Collins made a smart save low down from a deflected shot and he had to act as a sweeper on a couple of occasions but apart from that he was a virtual spectator. Michael Bevan had a chance to extend Cippenham’s lead but he was denied by an excellent save from the Stoke Road Legion keeper.

Early in the second half Cippenham fell asleep at a corner which allowed Stoke Road Legion to reduce the deficit from a low drive. Stoke Road Legion drew level from another set piece this time from a bullet header. New signing Jason Hill then weaved his way through the Stoke Road Legion defence only to shoot wide. Paul Gardner then rattled the woodwork with a powerful header before Stoke Road Legion struck the bar from another free header. Michael Bevan sealed victory for Cippenham when he dispossessed a Stoke Road Legion defender and raced clear to slot the ball home.
