Cippenham Sports returned to winning ways with an excellent 4-3 victory over Upton Lea on Saturday.

Cippenham fell behind to Upton Lea’s first attack of the game but they drew level almost immediately when Michael Bevan’s cross deceived the Upton Lea keeper and flew in. Cippenham then snatched the lead when new signing Joshua Warren scored on his debut from a sweetly struck free-kick. Bevan extended Cippenham’s lead on the half hour when he cut inside and curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box. Upton Lea fought back and rattled the woodwork but Cippenham also had  chances which Keith Oswald blazed over and scuffed wide.

Upton Lea stepped up a gear in the second half and they reduced the deficit with a neat finish following hesitation in the Cippenham defence. Cippenham suffered an injury setback when Paul Gardner came off with what later transpired to be a broken collarbone. After soaking up loads of Upton Lea pressure Cippenham restored there two goal cushion when Bradley Davidson capitalised on some shoddy defending to head home. Upton Lea forced Cippenham’s stand in keeper Garry Pyper into making a timely save before they struck the outside of an upright. Upton Lea pulled a goal back late on following another needlessly given away free-kick which was driven powerfully home passed a disappointed Pyper. Despite a few hectic moments Cippenham held on to record a fine win.
